Over 20 million people visited the Houston area in the year 2008... bringing with them $14.8 Billion in revenue

TAX IMPACT
Travel spending in the greater Houston area generated over $276 Million in local taxes for municipalities and counties. This includes hotel occupancy taxes, local sales taxes and local use taxes.

INDUSTRY REVENUE IMPACT
With over 19.3 million available room nights, over 13 million rooms were sold, translating into 68.0% occupancy in the year 2008.

The impact of visitors on the local economy was $14.8 Billion which includes the following expenditures:

Accommodations - $1.9 Billion
Retail Sales - $1.5 Billion
Food & Beverage - $2.4 Billion
Air & Ground Transportation - $4.4 Billion
Recreation - $1.8 Billion

EMPLOYMENT IMPACT
Over 58,800 individuals are employed in a variety of positions, including full & part-time jobs, in the hospitality industry in the Greater Houston Area.
