Over 20 million people visited the Houston area in the year 2000... bringing with them $4.9 Billion in revenue

TAX IMPACT Travel spending in the greater Houston area generated over $147 Million in local taxes for municipalities and counties.  This includes hotel occupancy taxes, local sales taxes and local use taxes.

In addition to the economic impact of room, food and beverage sales, hotel and motels infused over $500 Million in construction and renovation into the local economy.

INDUSTRY REVENUE IMPACT With over 18.7 million available room nights, over 12 million rooms were sold, translating into 64.4% occupancy in the year 2000. The impact of visitors on the local economy was $4.9 Billion which includes the following expenditures: Accommodations - $862 Million Retail Sales - $8.7 Million Ground Transportation - $7 Million Recreation - $6 Million PAYROLL IMPACT The Hospitality Industry in the Greater Houston Area generate over $2.0 Billion in payroll with $327 Million of this payroll in hotels and motels. This was over 89,000 jobs, including over 25,000 full & part-time jobs in the hotel/motel industry in the Greater Houston Area.
